DIY pet accidents

One of the best things you can do for pet accidents is if you are lucky enough to catch the animal in the act is to soak up as much as you can with towels, and pour salt liberally onto the urine while its still wet. Use enough salt to completely cover the spot. The salt will absorb and neutralize the urine. Let it dry and vacuum away.

But most of the time when we find these spots they might already be dry. Clean with a neutral cleaning agent such as baking soda and vinegar. Blot up as much as much as you can.  Put a towel on it with some books or other weights to leave over night. The remaining moister will wick up into the towel.

If urine passes through the carpet and pad  it will become more difficult to remove and you will probably want to consider Extreme Clean CU to take care of it. Why? Urine under goes a chemical change it comes out as an acid but eventually will turn to an alkaline. Bacteria from your carpet and left behind from the water in the urine will start to consume and begin to break down proteins, sugars, and other organics and start to secrete really foul odors.  These alkaline spots now can start to attack dyes in some carpets making permanent damage, by weakening or complete removal of the dye.

Not only can urine remove dyes in carpet, in extreme cases it can also dissolve the backing making it fall apart. Damage can occur to wood sub floors causing expensive repairs. The best thing you can do is act quickly to prevent these damages.

If you have these issues and are in need of our services don’t hesitate to call. We will be more than happy to answer any questions or concerns you may have.
